With nearly 7000ft of ascent passing over the Bwlch y Groes at 1788 feet, the highest public road mountain pass in Wales, it’s enough to test any cyclist.

“The Wild Wales Challenge 2012 promises to be enough for any cyclist. We’ve an exciting route of around 83 miles, with spectacular scenery around North Wales. The route departs from the Penllyn Sports Pavillion and begins with a climb up the Hirnant Pass, followed by a gentle ride along the Lake Vyrnwy shoreline, and on to the first Checkpoint via some of the quietest Welsh lanes. We then head on towards Machynlleth for the Lunch Stop, taking in some beautiful countryside along the way. The final Checkpoint is reached , prior to the return back to Bala, passing over the Bwlch y Groes at 1788 feet, the highest public road mountain pass in Wales.”
