Santini Cotswold Spring Classic Entries Open
Posted Thursday 12th December 2013 –
Entries for the 2014 Santini Cotswold Spring Classic are now open. The event takes place on Easter Monday (21st April) and has usually sold out well in advance of previous years so it is worth getting your entry in earlier to ensure a place.
Organised by Velo Events, the Cotswold Spring Classic is a fully supported event in the tradition of the best European cyclo-sportive’s and Gran Fondo’s. Now in its sixth year the Santini Cotswold Spring Classic is seen by many cyclists as a true ‘classic’ in the cycling calendar with riders being drawn to the challenge of the Cotswold hills from Belgium and northern France as well as across
the UK.
Any calories that need burning off after too many chocolate eggs can be dealt with the Easter Monday date – 21 April 2014. With gradients approaching 20% in some parts of the three routes and more climbing than on the ascent of Mont Ventoux on the 160km route it is great early season test.
“The Santini Cotswold Spring Classic has been growing in popularity each year we’ve run the event and it has been sold out for the past few years,” explains Andy Kirk of Velo Events. “Whilst the routes include some testing elements for experienced, medium and beginner cyclists one of the main reasons for the success is our approach to sportive events. We have been praised for the organisation, the quality of our feed stations and the general all round support we provide across all three of the route options.”
Last year’s weather also added to the mix as entrants coped with freezing temperatures and headwinds comparable to some of the Flanders events. This year riders can again choose from the 55km (340m of climbing), 100km (940m of climbing) and 160km (2000m of climbing) routes. There will be well-stocked feeding stations out on the road (one for the short and medium routes, two for the long route) stocked with a variety of food as well as first aid kits, spares and tools.
