The organisers of the LongLeg Sportive 2013 have recently announced a change of date for their spring sportive. The new date is 19th May 2013. Cycling in the Surrey Hills is more popular than ever due to the rapid growth of the sport thanks to Mr. Wiggins, the people’s choice, blasting across our screens in 2012, picking up a yellow shirt, a gold medal and a silver camera! Turns out he’s not bad on the guitar too!

The growth is also evident in the number of cycling events in the Surrey Hills.

LongLeg event director Rory Macpherson said “we were a little frustrated when we found that two other events had chosen the same date as us a long time after we had published ours on the usual event sites” To avoid potential conflict and confusion amongst fellow cyclists and to lessen the impact on fellow road users the organisers of the LongLeg have decided to change their date.

This year’s LongLeg will start and finish at the Surrey Sports Park in Guildford.

The routes will include some of the steepest and less well-known climbs in the area, toilets aswell as cakes at the feed-stations and supported by a mobile bike mechanic, broom wagon and NEG riders. “The sportive is a little unique in it’s toughness both because of the hills and because of the road surface on which the ascents take place…”
