Posted Tuesday 17th March 2015 –
Human Race Events, organisers of 13 prestigious UK sportives including the Wiggle Dragon Ride and Tour de Yorkshire Ride has teamed up with Tour de France organiser ASO to deliver a one-of-a-kind cycling experience in London on Sunday 27 September, taking in much of the Stage 3 of the 2014 Tour de France.
The inaugural L’Etape London by Le Tour de France brings the glamour of the Tour de France to the capital, offering riders distances of 40, 90 and 120 miles. The event is expected to follow sister event Tour de YorkshireRide, which takes in Stage 1 of the 2014 Tour, and sell-out extremely quickly, making it the must-ride event of 2015 for those lucky enough to get a place. Riders can register their interest from Monday 16 March to be the first to receive the entry information when places go on sale on Monday 30 March. Alternatively you can avoid missing out and can confirm your place in the event from 16 March if you commit to raising a minimum of £100 for official charity partner, Access Sport.
The route for the event will take in much of Stage Three of the 2014 Tour de France route and culminates spectacularly with a lap of honour around the Lee Valley VeloPark at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, home of the London 2012 Games. Riders will be able to experience a number of Tour de France inspired experiences including:
· Tour de France styled ride numbers
· A leg shaving experience in the event village
· A Tour de France museum and photo expo
· Tour de France styled Stage Profile Bike Stickers
· A Tour de France finish podium photo experience
Five times winner of the Tour de France, Bernard Hinault commented “ I was sure that the fantastic popular enthusiasm which accompanied the Tour de France 2014 peloton would not vanish. It’s a chance for the fans to challenge themselves on a route strongly inspired by the Tour de France 2014 stage 3. All those wanting to experience again the enthusiasm aroused by the Tour de France in last July will have to be present on L’Etape London by Le Tour de France.”
Nick Rusling, CEO of Human Race Events said “We are delighted that L’Etape London by Le Tour de France will join other already strong line-up of cycling events in the Human Race portfolio. We are confident that our experience and expertise will guarantee L’Etape London is an unrivaled rider experience. We are thrilled to join forces with ASO, an organisation with such important heritage, to bring a touch of the Tour de France magic to London. By supporting Access Sport riders can also play a part and help more disadvantaged and disabled young people through the power of sports like cycling.”
Yann Le Moenner, General Manager of ASO added “Human Race are the leading provider of quality sportives in the UK and we are proud to grow our association with them. Following on from the success of the sell-out Tour de Yorkshire Ride, we are excited to strengthen our partnership by jointly delivering what is set to be a landmark event for cycling in London.”
Participants are encouraged to raise funds for the event’s official charity Access Sport. The charity works closely with volunteer-led community sports clubs, helping disadvantaged and disabled young people to achieve their full potential and enjoy the social and health benefits of sport.
