It’s been a grim winter so far for road riding – but that’s why there are CX Sportives! And with the sun coming out and Spring showing it’s colours, the South Downs Sting CX Sportive on March 9th makes a great choice for your next event. Based at Duncton right at the foot of the mighty Downs, the South Downs Sting is an awesome ride! Chopping and changing between winding tarmac lanes, farm tracks and bridleways, and featuring sections of the iconic South Downs Way, it’s the ideal early spring outing. The course variety will keep you on your toes, the backdrop will keep you inspired, and the event organisation and support from Southern Sportive will keep you fuelled and on track.

There are three choices of ride distance from 50 to 80km, with climbing values varying for 850 to 1400 metres. CX Sportive routes are designed for variety on a mix of rideable surfaces, for any bike that is a little off road capable. Your exact choice of machine is up to you, but we’ve found that, as well as the natural choice of a cyclocrosser, 29ers and high quality hybrids also shine on these events, while tourers and hard tail MTB’s are more than capable too. But maybe leave the Pinarello Dogma at home…

CX Sportives are huge fun, and a great change of pace from the road. If you haven’t tried one yet, we highly recommend it. And while the roads are still messed up with storm debris anyway, as the best way to get out and ride, it just makes sense.
