EVENT DATE

Sunday 5th August 2012

LOCATION

Abergavenny, Monmouthshire

EVENT SUMMARY

Not just a new location but also a new set-up in 2012. The Abergavenny round is the only round where the road sportive will run on the Sunday of the event weekend rather than the Saturday. So Sunday will be all about riding on skinny tires! This year’s third Vitus Road SPortive will take us to a brand new location – Abergavenny (only 20 miles away from the English border and the gateway to Wales), an area famous for its quality riding but up to now never visited by the Road Sportive or CRC MTB Marathon series. The event is located in a stunningly scenic area in the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains – an ideal place for one of the most breathtaking and challenging Road Sportives in the 2012 series.

ROUTE INFORMATION

A choice of two route options –

  • 90 miles, 2500m of climbing
  • 55 miles 1450m of climbing

“A totally new sportive course for the 2012 series. These routes take you through some stunning valleys and over a couple of memorable mountains. The routes start by travelling north along the Llanthoney valley through the black mountains over Hay Bluff, here you will see stunning views of the Wye valley and the picturesque town of Hay on Wye. Then after descending down and following the Wye Valley you travel west towards Brecon where you’ll join the Usk Valley and follow the Monmouth canal to Llangynidr and the second big climb of the day over Llangynidr Mountain overlooking the Heads of the Valleys. From here you descend steeply down the notorious descent off the Blorenge to the usk valley, meandering back towards Abergavenny.”
