EVENT DATE

Sunday 22nd July 2012

LOCATION

Burnley, Lancashire

EVENT SUMMARY

The Nutter Challenge is a challenging sportive, setting out from Burnley College (our event village) and heading off into some of the best of the Lancashire Countryside.

ROUTE INFORMATION

A choice of three route distances are available –

  • The Trough – 160km
  • The Spellbinder – 100km
  • The Sorcerer – 60km

“Aptly named “The Nutter Challenge” as it puts you through your paces throughout Pendle Witch territory and the Trough of Bowland. The going gets tough from an early stage as you follow one of three stunning and challenging routes via the hills, peaks and troughs of Pendle and the Ribble Valley.

Pendle Hill is in an area known as Pendleside and its summit is 557 metres above sea level – you’ll start your route from Burnley one of Pendleside’s towns. The Pennines are to the East and the Forest of Bowland to the Northwest, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The panoramic scenery will literally take your breath away and you’ll have chance to enjoy some historic landmarks along the routes – you may be intrigued by the Pendle Witch trials of 1612, when Alice Nutter was one of ten witches tried and condemned to death in Lancaster.

In the beautiful Ribble Valley you’ll pass through Downham, location of several films and dramas, for example “Whistle down the Wind” and “Born and Bred”
