LOCATION

EVENT SUMMARY

A new sportive for 2013, organised by Glossop Kinder Velo Cycling Club to promote their club and cycling in the Peak District National Park.

ROUTE INFORMATION

Two route options –

  • The Half Hog – 50 miles with over 5,500 feet of climbing
  • The Whole Hog – 83 miles with over 9,000 feet of climbing –

“The two routes diverge at Ladybower Reservoir of ‘The Dambusters’ fame. The Whole Hog goes along the idyllic Edale Valley leading to a twisting ascent of Mam Nick ramping up to 21% and a feed station at the top. You are then rewarded with a stunning descent through Winnat’s Pass, by Speedwell Cavern and on to Castleton followed by another steep and long climb up by Peveril Castle. There follows a gentle ascent to Abney gliding club and a flowing, long descent to the market town of Hathersage. The route then climbs to the gritstone cliffs of Stanage edge and returns to Ladybower Reservoir where the two routes converge”
