The date for the second edition of the Paris Roubaix Challenge has been set for the 1st April 2012, the weekend before the Pro Tour Paris Roubaix race.
After what was essentially a test event last year, the organisers, ASO have decided to move the event to the weekend before the main Pro Tour event to enable it to be run on fully closed roads and to give sportive riders the chance to finish in the famous Roubaix Velodrome. Unlike last year this years event will also be fully timed.
Last years event took place the day before the Pro Tour race which meant the extra traffic and preparations of the main race restricted the sportive from having closed roads or heading into the centre of Roubaix to finish at the velodrome sp the move to the weekend before does address some of these problems. Unfortunately it means a longer trip if you want to ride the sportive and then stay on to watch the pro racers and it does line up a clash with the Tour of Flanders Sportive that takes place on the same weekend.
Entries for the event open on the 15th November 2011, for more information –
