Evans Cycles announces the 2017 King of The Downs super sportive will take place on Sunday 11 June and includes an additional intermediate route option.

The King of The Downs sportive is the flagship event of the Evans Cycles RIDE IT series; harder, longer and hillier than the rest it offers cyclists a chance to test their legs against some of the toughest hills in the South East with over 9,000 feet of ascent on the 115 mile route.

The full route takes in 10 iconic climbs that will be familiar to many cyclists with them having featured in events such as the 2012 Olympic road race route and the RideLondon-Surrey Classic. Six of the ten also feature in Simon Warren’s Top 100 Road Climbs and in a cruel twist of route design the hardest climbs are saved for last.

East Loop

Climb 1 – Leith Hill
Climb 2 – Pitch Hill
Climb 3 – Combe Lane
Climb 4 – Ranmore Common
Climb 5 – Box Hill

West Loop

Climb 6 – Tulleys Farm
Climb 7 – Weir Wood Reservoir
Climb 8 – Kidds Hill aka ‘The Wall’
Climb 9 – Yorks Hill
Climb 10 – Titsey Hill

Luckily what goes up must also come down so it’s not all pain and suffering with riders rewarded with sweeping descents and idyllic twisting lanes that lead to some stunning vistas as far as the eye can see.

As well as the full 115 mile route riders also have the choice of opting to just ride either the east or west loop which are 61 and 54 miles respectively.

Dean Stacey, RIDE IT Event Manager said “For 2017 we wanted to add something new to make sure the event continues to appeals to all levels of cyclists. As well as the full 115 mile route we’re now offering two shorter distance intermediate route options, one heading for the easier climbs of the east loop and a second tackling the harder climbs of the west loop.“

As with all Evans Cycles RIDE IT events you’ll get fully way-marked routes, mechanical support, electronic chip timing and well-stocked High5 sponsored feed stations plus for the King of The Downs there is a free pre-ride breakfast, a free post ride hot food and a well-deserved finisher’s medal to recognise your achievement.

In addition everyone signing up 8 weeks or more in advance gets a free High5 event pack and on the day of the event there will be exclusive offers on FWE riding kit.

Adult entry prices are £30 per person with free child entry for those under 16.
