If you’re looking for a testing target to aim for towards end of the sportive season then the new DorkingShift 3-cyclosportive event maybe worth checking out. The British Cycling-backed event takes place on the 29th September and features three distances all taking in the beautiful lanes of the North Downs. The three route options include the challenging HeroShift at 100 miles with 8,500 feet of ascent and 8 categorised climbs or if that sounds a bit much there’s also 50 mile SuperShift and 30 mile FunShift options as well. Children under 12 are also catered for with a KiddieShift event taking place on closed roads.
As an added incentive, event organiser Bite the Sun, is offering riders the chance to sign up for a 3‐month, pre‐sportive body and bike prep, training and performance webinar series. The first 30 early-bird entrants in each sportive signing up before June 30th, will get expert advice, training and performance testing usually reserved for elite athletes, with contributions from leading health, sports science and bike experts all for the price of a regular entrance ticket.
The event is organised by a health empowerment initiative called “Bite the Sun, for a vital life” and is in aid of Yes to Life cancer choices and Alliance for Natural Health International (ANH-Intl), a campaign promoting natural health approaches.
As well as the cycling there’s the DownShift, a full day of health and fitness expo with live cooking demos and tastings, followed by an evening of live music and entertainment.
