Following on from a successful launch last year the Red Kit Sportive returns for 2013 hosted by the Marlow Riders in association with the Marlow Striders running club, with all net proceeds going to local charities
ROUTE INFORMATION
A choice of 3 route options –
- 100 miles (162 km)
- 80 miles (129km)
- 50 miles (78 km)
“All routes start at the Marlow Sports Club, with the first riders able to leave at 7.30am. For some this first section will provide the greatest challenge enjoying some steady climbs up to Christmas Common, one of the highest points in the Chilterns. But don’t be put off. From here the views heading west over the Oxfordshire countryside are breathtaking. And, after a fast descent into Watlington the routes split, with the shorter ride cutting across to join the longer route near Benson.
After the split, the 80 and 100 mile routes heads north towards a relatively flat section through the lanes of Oxfordshire. Watch out, though, for the short snappy climb up to Brill and the first feed station where we invite you to enjoy the views from the landmark Brill windmill.
This relatively long flat section will provide an opportunity to do some steady miles or boost your average speed depending on your fitness, but make sure you save some energy for the final section!
All routes touch all three counties and the last section crosses the Thames twice as it negotiates the country lanes of Berkshire. The final section provides a tempting descent towards Marlow – but do watch out for the sharp hairpin bend!
This year our route planners have further minimised any usage of A class roads to improve the enjoyment of the ride. Changes this year will mean riders will no longer have to cross the busy A41 as they would have done twice for last year’s event. In addition, our new route is being planned to go around Twyford avoiding the traffic lights.”
