Great Western SportiveThe Great Western Sportive returns for it’s fourth year this Sunday with 600 riders lining up to take on the sweeping 100 mile course. If you’ve not entered and want to ride then advance entry is open until midnight on Thursday.

Swindon may not evoke immediate images of a cycling haven, but as any local will tell you, the town is bordered by miles of rich, rolling downland, and the Great Western delivers you straight into the heart of this for a fantastic day on the bike! The route passes through the ancient standing stone circles of Avebury, dives into the beautiful Lambourn Valley (the heart of horse racing country) and crosses the famous Ridgeway (Europe’s oldest road) several times. There are fantastic views and scenery all along the route, and fantastic, quiet, smooth and flowing roads to enjoy. The 100 mile full course notches up over 2,000 metres of climbing to set up a worthy challenge, and mid and short route options round out an event for all-comers.

Southern Sportive will be providing a full package of organisation and support, with over 600 signs on the route to keep you on track, support cars and motorbikes to back you up, three fully stocked feed stations,  at the finish instant ride times at the finish plus hot drinks and BBQ and a smart,  top quality, heavyweight event tee shirt for every finisher.
