Now in its 4th year, Wiggle Flatout in the Fens remains the longest and flattest single day sportive in the UK. The event has gone from strength to strength as more riders recognise the altogether different challenge and test their mettle on either the 150+ mile route, 112 Ironman ‘triathlon’ route or the 77 mile route. The event takes place around the time of the longest day, giving riders plenty of time to finish the longest sportive in Britain. With the event headquarters located in Peterborough, the route takes a complete tour around the Fens. This is a different challenge and former Flatout veterans will admit that the challenge isn’t just about the distance – even though it’s the flattest sportive around, it’s ‘the’ tough ride when it comes to endurance. With virtually no climbing at all, Wiggle Flatout in the Fens demands constant pedalling for the duration – finishers cross the line with a fantastic sense of achievement. In 2011 over 650 riders took part. With word now rapidly spreading, the organisers are gearing up for even more in 2012!
Title sponsor for the event is online bike, swim, triathlon and cycle retailer Wiggle – the UK’s official number 1 online bike retailer. The ride also helps to raise awareness of, and creates sponsorship opportunities for our 2012 charity partner, Cancer Research UK. Cancer Research UK is the World’s leading cancer charity.
Kilo To Go Event Director Simon Thomson says, “3 years ago we wanted to bring a different dimension and set of challenges to sportive riding. The success of Wiggle Flatout in the Fens is down to the fact that it does exactly that – the event appeals to the goal driven, challenge seeking sportive rider. Plus the fact it is set in an amazing landscape with big blue horizons… It’s a labour of love – and worth every second!”
