Champions of CycleSport Dinner 2012

Champions of CycleSport Dinner – the annual cycling event organised by children’s charity Action Medical Research – was hailed a phenomenal success by guests last night. The event today keeps its crown as ‘the cycling event of the year’, so named last year by Chris Boardman MBE.

Guests celebrated a golden year of cycling with the chance to mingle with their heroes; and the event raised an incredible £180,000 to help sick babies and children. Bids were made on a whole host of money-can’t-buy cycling and desirable items in the live and silent auctions.

The charity partnered with UK’s No.1 online cycle and tri-sport retailer, Wiggle, for its third annual event which was held at The Hurlingham Club in London, Thursday 22 November.

This star-studded event celebrated the charity’s passion for all things cycling. The 650 guests were joined by some of the biggest names on two wheels including Chris Boardman MBE, Dave Brailsford CBE, Rochelle Gilmore, Joanna Rowsell, Jonathan Tiernan-Locke, Jody Cundy and Rob Hayles.

Joanna Rowsell, the charity’s Cycling Ambassador, says: “What a great year for cycling! The Champions of CycleSport Dinner was a true celebration of this. I’m really excited to be Cycling Ambassador for such a worthwhile charity and one that is so passionate about cycling. It was a night to remember with live and exclusive interviews with the Champions, conducted by Sky TV’s Dermot Murnaghan.

Cycling contributes significant income towards our important work saving and changing children’s lives and to be associated with such passionate individuals from all walks of life inspires us on a daily basis.”

This year Action Medical Research celebrates 60 years of vital research. The charity is currently supporting work around Down syndrome, meningitis, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, premature birth and some very rare conditions that severely affect children.
