Bethany Sportive 2012
Posted Tuesday 22nd May 2012 –
The Bethany Sportive team are looking for riders to take on their sportive challenge on Sunday 2nd June. The event is now in its fourth year and offers a choice of a challenging 102 mile route for serious cyclists or there is a shorter route of 72 miles on offer for those who fancier a shorter time of wouldn’t be able to complete the longer stretch within 8 hours or less. Both routes take in some glorious Scottish scenery with the long route featuring some 8000ft of ascent to add to the challenge.
Riders leave from Lasswade High School in Bonnyrigg and head south over the Moorfoot Hills to Innerleithen where the long and shorter routes split. Just before the split there is chance to stop off at the first water station to rehydrate. The long route now takes a spectacularly scenic route around the borders where a water and feed station will be located at Tushielaw before riders take on the formidable climb (and then descent!) of Witchie Knowe! For the shorter route, riders return to Lasswade from Innerleithen via the River Tweed and Gala Water valleys. Both routes meet again just west of Galashiels and head north where another feed and water station awaits loaded with cakes! Riders then return to the High School over the Moorfoot Hills once more where another water station will be on hand to top you up before attempting those rolling hills.
Each participant will be individually timed and the finishing times will be published on the Bethany website after the event. Feed and water stations will also be on hand offering the riders refreshments along the way which should stock a variety of snacks, high sugar biscuits and cakes as well as water. They’ll also be travelling first aiders, a team of route response vehicles and motorbike outriders to ensure riders are in very safe hands.
Entries are limited to 400 with an entry fee of £30 per entrant and entrants are urged to sign up quickly to secure a place, entry is via Entry Central –
There are also 50 free spaces for riders who can raise over £100 in sponsorship. If you’re interested in one of these places then please email Hannah at sportive@bethanychristiantrust.com before you sign up.
